What Medications Interact With LEVITRA?

LEVITRA may or may not be right for you. If you take any vitamins, precription medications, herbal pills, supplements, or recreational drugs, you must tell your doctor. Tell your doctor if you take medicines like nitrates or recreational drugs like amyl nitrate and butyl nitrate (poppers).

Nitrates are used to treat angina, which is a symptom of heart disease, and it can cause pain in your jaw, chest or down your arm. Some medicines contain nitrates such as isosorbide dinitrate or isosorbide mononitrate. Some recreational drugs like "poppers" also contain nitrates, like amyl nitrate and butyl nitrate.

You should not use these drugs and medicines if you are taking LEVITRA. If you are not sure if the medicine you take contains nitrates, ask your doctor or pharmacist. If you have been told by your doctor to stop having sex because of health conditions or problems, you should not take LEVITRA.

Other Medications That Affect LEVITRA

LEVITRA may interact with other medicines. Check with your doctor before you start or stop any medicines. You must tell your doctor if you take alpha-blockers, which are sometimes prescribed for high blood pressure and prostate problems. LEVITRA may lower your blood pressure significantly if you take these two medicines together, and it can lead to fainting.

If you take any medications that lower your blood pressure, tell your doctor. In addition, you should tell your doctor if you take medicines for an abnormal heartbeat such as amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine and procainamide. Inform your doctor if you take ritonavir (Norvir®), saquinavir (Fortavase® or Invirase®), indinavir sulfate (Crixivan®), atazanavir (Reyataz®), ketoconazole or itraconazole (such as Nizoral® or Sporanox®), erythromycin or clarithromycin, or other medications for erectile dysfunction.

Keep in mind that your doctor may adjust your dose, depending on how you react to the medication.

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients found in LEVITRA, you should not take it. The active ingredient found in the medication is vardenafil hydrochloride. The inactive ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, yellow ferric oxide, and red ferric oxide.

Also, keep in mind that a meal that is high in fat may lower the amount of the drug in your body. Also, you should avoid drinking grapefruit juice or eating grapefruit while you are using LEVITRA unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Your dosage is based on your health condition, response to therapy and other medications or medicines that you may be taking. Make sure you review the patient information leaflet that your pharmacist gives you, and ask questions when you need to.
